Sheryl Underwood has never been one to hold her tongue, but the outspoken comedian and host of The Talk was ambushed on Twitter after her comments on natural black hair.
It all began when special guest Heidi Klum mentioned saving her children’s afro hair in Ziploc bags after haircuts. Underwood seemingly confused at the idea of saving “nappy” hair went on a rant about her conscious dislike for natural hair.
“Why would you save afro hair? “You can’t weave afro hair. “You never see [black women] at the hair place going ‘Look, here, what I need here is, I need those curly, nappy beads…That just seems nasty.”
When co-host Sarah Gilbert chimed in and admitted to saving her children’s hair, Underwood approved.
“Which is probably some beautiful, long, silky stuff…that’s not what an afro is.”
There is nothing wrong with natural hair and to have a person go on national television and degrade African American hair is unacceptable, especially to do so while wearing a synthetic wig. Shame on you Ms. Underwood!
