Tulsa School Sends Girl Home for Having ‘Dreadlocks’

Tulsa Girl

Deborah Brown Community School is making news for the wrong reason. Instead of news cameras showing up to report high levels of academic achievement, the charter school has to face questions from Terrance Parker,  the father of Tiana, a young girl who was sent home because of her ‘dreadlocks’. According to Fox affiliate KOKI, the school feels “dreadlock” are a distraction from the respectful and serious atmosphere it strives for.

The school dress code policy states:

“Hairstyles such as dreadlocks, afros, mohawks, and other faddish styles are unacceptable.”

Although the school feels differently, Tiana says:

“I think that they should let me have my dreads.”
